Enter The Gungeon is a fun little game that appears simple on the surface, but has a lot to offer the more you play. The references and items available to stumble across mean this dungeon crawler runs deeper than other games in the genre.

Here is a list of the twelve top synergies between guns and items to make your next run go a little more smoothly.
12 Arctic Warfare
- A.W.P
- Frost Bullets or Heart of Ice or Frost Ammolet or Snowballets
The A.W.P is already an A-tier gun which can pierce through several enemies and deals 40 damage. But, with any of the snowy items mentioned the damage goes up to 62.5 per shot and is guaranteed to freeze enemies hit. The fire rate is pretty high, so with this synergy a room of enemies can be frozen or killed in no time flat, brilliant for when the odds are stacked against you.

This synergy requires a whole bunch of guns, most of which are great by themselves. However, if the player is in possession of all six at once all damage is increased by 30%, magazine size goes up another 50%, firing speed goes up 50% as well, and reload times drop by 33%! If all that wasn't enough to win you the game, enemy bullet speed is reduced by 20%, and if the Eye of the Beholster is being held the other five guns will encircle the player, firing at enemies.

There are two ways to get this amazing perk though. You can get really, really lucky on your run and bump into all of them, or you can happen upon the Shrine of the Beholster. This depicts the second floor boss, whose tentacles wield six guns that fire at the unlucky player. Across multiple runs those guns can be placed at this shrine, one at a time, until all six have been donated. At that point the synergy is granted as well as the Eye of the Beholster gun. After that, the shrine returns to zero guns.
10 Brave New World
- Siren Gun
- Trident or Bionic Leg
Alone, the Siren will fire out fish at great speeds which flop on the floor making a right mess. However, if you give the mermaid her bionic legs (or her dad's Trident) a little fishy friend will spawn. Ariel had a whole lot of junk, but now, with this damp companion, the player can see inside chests to find out if they're worth opening. No more useless items drops or rubbish guns!
9 Buggin' Out
- Bug Boots
- Gungeon Ant
When rolling around the Gungeon with these boots on the player will leave a layer of poison behind. But when wielding the Gungeon Ant too, you will produce terribly flammable oil puddles instead. The Gungeon Ant gun switches between firing its own oil and then bursts of flame to ignite it. This combo can leave enemies totally on fire while granting you immunity to catching alight. Sit back and watch the world burn.
8 Clearer Guon Stone
- Clear Guon Stone
- Amulet of the Pit Lord or +1 Bullets or Bottle
With just one of these items and the Clear Guon Stone (a reference to Ioun stones in Dungeons and Dragons), the player becomes invincible! Well, not quite, but you will be immune to fire, poison, and electricity, which makes traversing the dungeons a lot breezier. And, if the player happens to be standing on frozen ground or in fire, shooting any gun will freeze or light the enemy on fire, respectively.
7 The Ecstasy Of Gold
- Gilded Bullets
- Gilded Hydra or Old Goldie
Both of these guns are high damage and high tiered weapons. When the player is missing two hearts (even if additional heart containers have been granted) the Gilded Hydra's damage maxes out at 83.3, while the Old Goldie deals 88 damage but has a shorter range. Gilded Bullets are an item that increases damage up to 100% of the base (so twice as much) depending on the number of Shells the player holds.

However, when the Ecstasy of Gold synergy is achieved, on top of all other damage multipliers, another 25% is added to the final sum. So, when wielding Old Goldie with the Gilded Bullets, and with 500 Shells on hand, the damage per shot caps out at 220. Holy moly.
6 Greener Guon Stone
- Green Guon Stone
- +1 Bullets or Pea Shooter or Amulet of the Pit Lord
This Guon Stone has a chance to heal the player upon taking damage, but when any of the three items or guns are also on the player things get a bit interesting. If the damage dealt would have killed the player then the chance for healing increases by 70%, so it's like an unreliable Ration. As if to make up for that shortcoming, 20 Shells will appear when the stone heals you. How generous!
5 Heart-Shaped Box
- Lament Configurum
- Heart Lunchbox
The Lament Configurum is a complicated puzzle box that can reward gungeoneers just as easily as it can punish them. Upon use it will spawn a wave of enemies, and occasionally will unlock to drop a gun or an item of S, A or B tier. There is, however, a 25% chance that even when the player is rewarded the item will damage them for a full heart.
When the Heart-Shaped Box synergy is achieved that chance to be damaged is replaced by the same chance to be healed. This makes the Lament Configurum item much more worth the inventory space, providing a high quality drop and healing.
4 Keeping The Beat
- Metronome
- Drum Clip
This melodic item provides a nice bonus to damage upon every enemy killed in a row, until damage is taken or the current gun is swapped out. Combined with the Drum Clip that bonus is doubled to 4% and maxes out at an amazing 250% extra damage! Imagine that on your favorite high damage gun.
3 Praise The Gun
- Gun Soul
- Old Knight's Flask
If you've ever played Dark Souls then this iconic flask will be familiar to you, as will the bonfires it spawns in conjunction with Gun Soul. Upon death the player would usually be dragged back to the beginning of the floor to find their items and perilously navigate it all over again at much less health.

But with this synergy the player spawns, like in Dark Souls, at the last bonfire they lit at the shop or the elevator down. For some reason dodge roll recovery time is reduced too. These Gundead are strange beings in a strange land.
2 Telefrag
- Chest Teleporter
- Teleporter Prototype
Teleporting around the Gungeon can make the game a lot easier, though sometimes you'll turn up in a room full of enemies you just aren't prepared for, and that's the end of your run. With the Telefrag synergy that is no longer a problem. Every enemy in the room will be immediately killed, like a free pass in this unforgiving game. If the player winds up in one of the secret rooms then the Teleporter Prototype cooldown will be significantly reduced.
1 Turtle Solutions
- Super Space Turtle
- Turtle Problem
The Turtle Problem refers to the philosophical question of "If the Earth is held up by a turtle, then what's holding up that turtle? Another turtle? And then another and another." It's used in coding to suggest that a problem is made up of increasingly complex layers of problems that have no end. In this game though, it's much less complicated than that.
After each room cleared, the player will gain a turtle companion which will fire bullets at enemies, dealing five damage. Unlike real life, there is a cap on the turtle buddies you can collect, and it's only four. Boo, we want more Super Space Turtles!
