When it was all said and done Friday, Derek Diamond put together a solid sample size on the mound, striking out four batters in five innings while giving up just two hits and a walk. Dylan Delucia struck out four batters in three innings and surrendered two hits.At the plate, TJ McCants had a perfect day. No, literally. McCants finished a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and throw in three stolen bases just for good measure. Other notable standouts at the plate include Reagan Burford and Ben Van Cleve, who combined went 4-for-7. The latter had two RBI on the final hit of the day. After the starting lineups going into this afternoon. See what happened.

I'm looking forward to delivering all sorts of baseball related content this season. Here's a reminder that Ole Miss will open the 2022 season here at Swayze Field with a three-game series starting Friday, Feb. 18 against Charleston Southern. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m. while the following two games in the series are slated with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch. It is worth noting that former Ole Miss volunteer assistant Marc MacMillan is the head coach of the Buccaneers. In addition, MacMillan was a four-year letterman on the Ole Miss baseball team back in the 1990s.

1ST INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (3)

Top 1st: Red 0, Blue 0

Blue is up at the plate first. Diamond strikes out leadoff hitter Peyton Chatagnier with a near 10-pitch at-bat right before taking care of Jacob Gonzalez with a strikeout swinging. Then, Kevin Graham flys out to center to end the opening top-half inning. Really solid start for Diamond, who is expected to take the ball first in their season opening against Charleston Southern.

Bottom 1st: Red 5, Blue 0

Justin Bench hits a leadoff single off of Drew McDaniel, a blooper that landed in shallow center field that dropped in front of three defenders. Shortly after, Bench was caught stealing second on a dart by Calvin Harris, but I guess the coaches have decided to keep Bench on base. The first two runs of the game came immediately after with a TJ McCants home run to left-center to give the Red squad a 2-0 lead and no outs. After Tim Elko flew out to left field, Banks Tolley misjudged a potential fly-out in center field to allow Dunhurst to reach. The Red squad tacked on their lead with a 2RBI hit by Leatherwood to make it 3-0. Tim Simay added to it with a two-run bomb, right over Tolley's glove in center field to make it 5-0 Red, one out left in the bottom half inning. A strikeout concludes the inning.

2ND INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (4)

Top 2nd: Red 5, Blue 0

Diamond quickly breezed through Kemp Alderman and Calvin Harris before giving up his first hit of the game to Reagan Burford. With one runner on and two outs, Ben Van Cleve popped up in the infield and with the sun in his eyes, Tim Simay makes an outstanding, behind his head head catch to go back to the bottom of the second.

Bottom 2nd: Red 5, Blue 0

Drew McDaniel quickly took care of Knox Loposer, Garrett Wood and Tywone Malone to finish with a 1-2-3 inning. Red leads 5-0. McDaniel seemed to have settled in.

3RD INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (5)

Top 3rd: Red 6, Blue 0

Derek Diamond is still humming along and looking like a Friday starter despite a double given up to Banks Tolley. Tolley reached third base with two outs in the top of the third before Gonzalez lined out to Tim Elko, who is playing first base this afternoon.

Bottom 3rd: Red 6, Blue 0

Drew McDaniel surrendered a one-out single to TJ McCants. Then, McCants found his way to third after a few stolen bases before heading back to the dugout due to being the victim of a rundown, ultimately putting Tim Elko at second base. McDaniel then got out of the inning unscathed as Dunhurst few out to center field.

4TH INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (6)

Top 4th: Red 6, Blue 0

Derek Diamondwas still on the mound and rather quickly went 1-2-3 through the fourth.

Bottom 4th: Red 9, Blue 0

Drew McDaniel issued a walk to Hayden Leatherwood to start the fourth inning. Tim Simay followed that up by striking out swinging and it would have been a strike out-throw out, but they are apparently not playing certain rules today so Leatherwood went back to first base. With two outs left in the inning, Knox Loposer tattooed a two-run bomb to make it a 9-0 Red team lead. The inning ended abruptly based on coach orders it seems like.

5TH INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (7)

Top 5th: Red 9, Blue 0

This is likely Derek Diamond's final inning, based on the lineup sheet in pregame. Derek started the inning walking Reagan Burford before Ben Van Cleve flew out to center field. Burford advanced to second on a ground out and with two outs, Tim Simay made a great play 6-3 play to end the top half of the inning.

Bottom 5th: Red 10, Blue 0

Matt Parenteau is now on the mound for the blue squad and handles Garrett Wood and Tywone Malone. A fielding error by Peyton Chatagnier (now playing 2B) put Justin Bench on first and TJ McCants hit a single right on the right field line, scoring Bench and making it a 10-0 Red lead. A strikeout-throw out ends the inning.

6TH INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (8)

Top 6th: Red 10, Blue 1

Derek Diamond's day is done and Jack Dougherty is in to pitch for the red squad. Diamond's day was solid, a week before opening day. Dougherty's first pitch was a no-doubter home run by Peyton Chatagnier, putting the blue squad on the board for the first time this afternoon. Jacob Gonzalez nearly hit one out immediately afterward, but it was caught at the wall. Dougherty escaped the inning with no further damage.

Bottom 6th: Red 10, Blue 1

Parenteau issued a leadoff walk to Leatherwood, but no further damage was done in the runs category.

7TH INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (9)

Top 7th: Red 10, Blue 1

Jack Dougherty is back on the mound and there were a few position changes around him. Calvin Harris started off the inning with a leadoff single and two batters later, Ben Van Cleve hit a one-out left field single to put runners at the corners. John Kramer hit into a double play to advance the game to the bottom of the seventh.

Bottom 7th: Red 10, Blue 1

Dylan Delucia entered the game to pitchfor the blue squad and took care of Tywone Malone. Malone narrowly gets to first safe after a ground out, but one thing is for certain... Malone can absolutely fly on the basepath. Delucia got out of the inning.

8TH INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (10)

Top 8th: Red 10, Blue 1

Jack Dougherty returned to the mound to start the eighth inning and kept things in check despite a fielding error.

Bottom 8th: Red 10, Blue 1

Dylan Delucia surrendered a one-out, line drive single to left field and later made his way to second base, but a strikeout to Hayden Leatherwood brought the afternoon to the final inning.

9TH INNING

RECAP: Ole Miss baseball's Friday intrasquad game (11)

Top 9th: Red 10, Blue 4

Jack Dougherty records the first out relatively easy, but allowed Kemp Alderman and Reagan Burford to reach. Ben Van Cleve followed that up with an 2RBI double to score the latter two runners. However, Van Cleve over-ran second base and Tywone Malone caught him in a run down. Due to maxing out innings, the game advanced to the bottom of the ninth, where Dylan Delucia finished the job.
