A silver lining has emerged amid all of the Yellowstone Sturm und Drang: franchise overlord Taylor Sheridan says the series’ delayed six-episode swan song may be expanded.

“If I think it takes 10 episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me 10,” Sheridan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”

Yellowstone‘s fifth season was initially intended to consist of 14 episodes, split into two parts. The first eight episodes aired in 2022, with the remaining six pushed to late 2023 due to uncertainties surrounding Kevin Coster’s involvement and the ongoing WGA strike.

One thing is certain: The current iteration of Yellowstone will end with Season 5, with an as-yet-untitled spinoff of unknown premise — one quite possibly led byMatthew McConaughey— launching shortly thereafter.

In the aforementioned THR piece, Sheridan also sets the record straight about the Coster kerfuffle and cryptically teases the fate of John Dutton (more on that here).

    • Our favorite show on TV please don’t leave us now. Hoping this will continue on forever. You will have millions of disappointed watchers if you leave .Promise us you won’t

      Reply

    • Nah, good shows need to end when the story is done. Without John Dutton, it’s done.

      Reply

  2. So tired of reading about poor John! Hope he does not come back!!!

    • This sounds so stupid. I don’t want to see Beth in college.🤮🤮. We’re way apart that. And Matthew Mc. What the hell. Where does he fit in.??????? Where is RIP and Luke ???? The sounds dumber than hell itself. I’m done. You should just kill or whatever with Costner and end the show. Please don’t go back to young kids. We’re way way a past that. Just end it. Move on with another show of yours cause you ruined this one. Try again to succeed. I’m sooooo damn mad.

  3. Keep the show going!! Kill off John Dutton and bring in Mathew as the oldest illegitimate son who gets the ranch. I am so over Kevin Costner and all the bull that comes with him.

  4. Shame on Kevin Costner for opting out of the best show on TV. Really wish show would continue with daughter Beth as the lead actor. I thought she was the best part on the show.

    • I’m not sure how Kevin Costner wants to leave . He’s also Executive Producer. I love this show I hate to see it end. To bad an agreement can’t be made

      Reply

  5. Move the show to the Four Sixes with Beth, Rip, Jimmy and few other hands!

  6. I hope Sheridan decides to go more than the 6 originally planned episodes. He needs more to do a proper series ending. The main reason they are choosing to end Yellowstone instead of working around the Costner issues is the streaming….a new show would be on Paramount+….Yellowstone is tied to streaming on Peaco*ck.

  7. This whole thing is about what Kevin wants! There are more people to consider.
Just be done with him and let the story go on.
    My favorite show! Especially RIP

    • Absolutely I love all the characters in this. [ JIMMY] my favorite. Sad to see it end

  8. All good things must come to an end. Don’t have high hopes for a spinoff but hopefully they will find a way to “spin off” the character of Beth — as in put a permanent end to her awful character. They don’t have to kill her — I’m not that mean — just write her off. I’ll agree the access does a great job and the character can occasionally be entertaining to watch but Beth Dutton is the most vile human being I have seen on a show in a long, long time. And the actor who portrays her husband Rip may be one of the worst actors of all time.

  9. I’m curious why everyone thinks Kevin Costner is the bad guy. Do they know the whole story? Maybe he had other commitments because he thought the show would be finished shooting by the time he needed to be free. Maybe the scripts weren’t ready, if that’s true, was that his fault? He’s a busy man. I think everyone tends to forget that he is the star of Yellowstone. Would you have watched had he not been the star? Most of the other cast members I had never even heard of before the show and I’m not sure I would have watched it. So, in my opinion, all the spinoffs etc, could be because Costner did such a great job with Yellowstone. My opinion. That’s it.

    Reply

    • Costner is responsible. His first commitment was to Yellowstone. He was over commitment and that is why the show could not continue. He should be sued out of Hollywood.

  10. You would think 2 grown men could let go of their enlarged egos and act like adults. Costner and Sheridan aren’t the only 2 being affected. Think of all others cast members and crew members that are going to lose their jobs, because of overactive egos.

  11. The show is geared toward an ending, I am hoping for an ending that says Kayce and his family left standing. It would be fitting for him to give the ranch back to the tribe in exchange for federal protection less 200 acres for his family including the cemetery.
As for the spinoffs 4 6’s is coming regardless and Jimmy is going to be a big art of that. ( really like that charector) I am hoping a handful of former Y hands end up with him but also look forward to new story lines outside of the warzone in Yellowstone.

  12. Kevin Costner is/was a great actor but I think the show can go on without him. I don’t see why they can’t continue the story, or see if Kevin is willing to do a couple episodes a season rather then the whole season. I heard he is going through a divorce, and that is a trying time for anyone. But I feel they shouldn’t punish a show and just cancel it because one big part of the show is leaving. There are still people who want to be on this successful show.

    • Absolutely I don’t see why that can’t be worked out with Powers that be

  13. I started watching Yellowstone because of Kevin Costner. I was instantly hooked, obsessed; told people you need to see this. All good things must come to an end or they get stale and you secretly wish they’d just go away. Not the case with Yellowstone. The world is already mourning the loss of the Dutton family. I liked 1883, except I’m a crier, and I cried like there was no tomorrow. 1923 is the best love story since Out of Africa. These are the works of a genius and he says time to go, I’ll trust him. But I need dvds and extras.

  14. I am so sick of getting into a series that I really love and then it’s decided to be canceled I really love Yellowstone and it sickens me that it’s going to be canceled after season 5. And on top of that one 1923 is only going to be one season and now we are not ever going to know what happened with Spencer does he ever get home that really stinks too I don’t know why Sheraton just cannot do another season of 1923 that’s very disappointing it makes me very weary of getting into another series so long Yellowstone so long 1923 they were my favorite programs on TV 😭😭😭 good luck Kevin Costner and all your endeavors I wish you luck with your very nasty divorce.

    Reply

    • Why do you think season 2 of 1923 isn’t going to happen? It’s going to be later than planned because of the writer’s strike. Lots of shows in the middle of filming have stopped because of solidarity with the writers. The only thing that might be problem is the availability of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren but I think they’ll figure out a schedule for them.

      Reply

    • I also will not be watching any more Taylor Sheridan shows it’s sad that you find a good show finally and then it disappears he had a good thing going and he had to do more and overextend himself and now we sit with no more Yellowstone because of his overdoing it

      Reply

  15. How about this? Don’t kill John Dutton off, just have them say that “John” went off to Montana or wherever to act as a consultant on the new Kevin Costner western(s). Costner pays him a large consulting fee, and that money saves Yellowstone Ranch, with Kacey and Beth running the place, with Jamey continuing to cause trouble.

  16. John Dutton is the least interesting character in Yellowstone!! Keep it going without him…..we don’t wanna lose characters like Rip, Beth, and the cowboys!!

  17. Yes me and my husband love yellow stone.we would love to see keven Costner come back.he and Beth Rip make the sho but we understand if he can’t come back

  18. It seems that good series on tv dont last long and the spin offs are usually a big let down

    • A good series know when to call it quits. How often has a good series gone on too long and been ruined. I love yellowstone, but it comes a point when you have to end it. Leave the audience wanting more.

      Reply

  19. Why don’t u just replace him it’s been done before and it worked out good

    Reply

  20. Sad it’s ending but hate having to wait for the continuation viewers are loyal but don’t like how it drags on is it going to show, never saw when?

  21. Won’t be good without kevin. Won’t watch

  22. I, like many, am over it.
You dangled it for too long. We all loved Yellowstone we counted the long months til the next season. I don’t think I’ll even watch the rest of season 5. IF it ever airs.

    • Replace him with the younger John Dutton. Just dye his hair and mustache.,age him alittle and go from there.

  23. It’s a shame we won’t see more episodes. Myself and others really enjoyed the drama on Yellowstone; it will be missed for sure. ☹️😕😩😭♥️ Such a shame for sure. LATER TV FREAKS 😎😁

  24. If Kevin Costner doesn’t play John DUTTON, I WILL NO LONGER WATCH THE FINAL DAYS OF YELLOWSTONE. I WANT JOHN DUTTON ALIVE AND PLAYED BY KEVIN COSTNER. AND, IM NOT BY MYSELF. TAYLOR SHERIDAN YOU NEED TO KNOW WHO MADE YOUR YELLOWSTONE A T
OP HIT AND THAT IS MR. COSTNER.

    Reply

    • No one should have to tolerate the childish antics of the self obsessed Kevin Costner. He’s not the best actor Hollywood has seen. He’s ruined a long running series and ropped in millions of views only to disappoint and turn away. The streaming giants love it but viewers are understanding this game and many have lost interest in the show. His divorce has nothing to do with it, imo. He got greedy and self absorbed. Sheridan is the star here. It’s time to move on from Yellowstone and hope that Sheridan continues his work entertaining viewers.

      Reply

  25. I would love to see Yellowstone continue for more seasons to come. Just because Costner seems to want to leave the show should not be a reason for the show to end. For example, you could have John Dutton marry the former governor, and then when he is off the show, she can run the ranch, Beth wouldn’t be happy about it, and so on. Maybe he gets Summer pregnant and have the show continue into the next generation. There are ways to continue the show. It shouldn’t end just because of 1 person.
